Cougar Golf was first founded in California USA in 1973 by Roger Dunn who was also the founder of the Nevada Bobs retail chain in the US.

Although we have made golf clubs for some of the worlds leading players in the past such as Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, Cougar no longer pays players to use our equipment, and that is why we can offer such great products at a fraction of the major's prices.

Cougar Golf were one of the first golf companies to start pushing the boundaries of golf club technology, Roger Dunn's son Steve was a University trained engineer and was very interested in designing golf clubs with Game Improvement features for the average Joe golfer, looking for better playability and consistency than the traditional golf club shapes offered.

Some of Steve's designs included Oversize Irons which at that time were not manufactured by any golf company, not long after he then designed models specifically for Senior Golfers and Women Golfers, he was a master of innovation and to highlight this even further Steve was the first manufacturer to ever put wheels on a Travel cover.

In 1985 Peter Jones was in Florida for the US PGA Golf show where he was introduced to Roger and Steve Dunn and the Cougar golf brand, Peter had spent over 25 years in the Australian Golf and sporting Industry and over the years had worked for companies such as Dunlop Slazenger, Puma and Yonnex, at that time no one was actively selling Cougar products in Australia and as Peter was very impressed with the Cougar product range he saw a great opportunity to be able to offer the great Cougar brand products to Australian golfers.

In 1986 Peter's first shipment of Cougar components arrived in Australia and from a small warehouse on the Gold Coast with the help of a good mate and golfing buddy Steve Creighton started assembling and selling Cougar clubs.

Peter Jones's main passion had always been golf, he grew up in Grafton where he honed his game and quickly became one of the leading amateurs at Grafton golf club.

At 19 he moved to Sydney to take up a store boys position with Dunlop Slazenger, at the time Dunlop Slazenger was one of the leading players in the industry and Peter can remember as a boy his heroes at the time people such as Jack Nicklaus coming into Dunlop to pick up his sets of blades when ever Jack was down under, whilst Peter lived in Sydney he played in the St Michael's Pennant team and was known as a excellent ball striker.

At 24 Peter was offered the Victorian sales managers position for Dunlop which he took and moved to Melbourne, where he and his wife Carolyn started their family.

Peter became a member at Kingston Heath Golf Club where he continued his passion and was soon in their Pennant team continuing his high level of play.

In 1985 Peter moved his family to the Gold Coast to be closer to his ageing parents who were still based in Grafton, and in 1986 Cougar golf Australia was started, based in a modest factory at Ashmore and with some help from some of his mates from the Burleigh Heads Golf Club he quickly grew Cougar's reputation as a true high quality product at an affordable price.

In 2002 Peter took up a position as General Manager at the Grand Golf Club on the Gold Coast and handed the reins over to his son Chris who at 35 had spent the past 15 years working closely with his father on club design and club performance.

Chris started making and repairing golf clubs at 21 years of age and quickly grew a passion for club design, at the age of 28 he became Factory Manager and was handling the day to day running of the business.
Chris is now the General Manager of Cougar Golf and leads a team of dedicated and experienced staff who have a combined total of over 50 years in the golfing industry.
